Chairman of ANOCA works in Angola

Luanda - The chairman of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Mustapha Berraf, is in Luanda for a working visit until the 18th of this month, to strengthen institutional relations with Angolan sports entities.

The sports manager arrived Sunday (15), at 4 de Fevereiro Airport, with a delegation made up of the chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia, Alfred Foloko, the National Olympic Committee of Tunisian, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki, and the member of ANOCA, Jean Tchaffo.

His program includes a visit to the Olympafrica Project at Kikuxi Villas Club and Dream Space pavillion, all in the municipality of Viana, in the country's capital, for a tourist event. He will also visit the 11 de Novembro National Stadium with the aim to check the progress of work on the new headquarters of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA) and a meeting with the Foreign Minister.

The former Algerian referee will also work at the facilities of the National Federations, the Alvalade Swimming Pool, as well as some historical sites on the Island of Luanda and the Armed Forces Museum.

On Wednesday (18), an agreement is scheduled to be signed between ANOCA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD), for the holding of the African Youth Games and on the same day he will be received at an audience that will be granted to him by the Head of State, João Lourenço. At the meeting the body will award the President with the “Order of Merit”.

Mustapha Berraf, aged 70, was chairman of the African Mini-Basket Commission (1996-2002), deputy chairman of the Pan-African Games Organizing Committee (2007) and as well as deputy chairman of ANOCA (2002-2017). He was also chairman of the Organizing Committee of the African Youth Games (1989-2005) and then its deputy chairman in 2018.

In 2021, he was elected deputy chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria.

Among its awards and distinctions, some stand out, namely Olympic Order of the International Olympic Committee, Order of Merit of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ACON), Order of Merit of the Association of African National Olympic Committees (ANOCA), Sports Personality of the Year in Algeria in 2002 and 2018 and honorary citizen of several cities, including Patras, Greece, Moscow, Russia and Oran, Algeria.
