Luanda – Angolan swimmers Catarina Sousa and Henrique Mascarenhas were the most outstanding among the four athletes of the national team, who competed from 16 to 21 this month in the World Swimming Championship in a 25 meters pool, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, ANGOP learnt on Wednesday.
Catarina Sousa stood out by breaking her previous absolute national record of (1 min:05 sec.80 dec) in the 100 meters coast, with a time of 1:04.12 that earned her 627 points in the race organized by the FINA, in which the Angolans set times far below the 16 best records that qualify for finals in the two individual competitions.
The athlete was also involved in the 100m freestyle, where she registered a time of 58 seconds and 88 tenths, which represents 621 pts.
Lia Lima competed in the 200m butterfly and recorded a time of 2:24.40 (568 pts) and in the 100m butterfly with 1:03.94 (623 pts).
In the men's category, the highlight goes to Henrique Mascarenhas who accumulated 682 pts, by registering 1:52.88, in the 200m freestyle, and then in the 400m freestyle finished with a time of 4:04.23 (656 pts).
Salvador Gordo participated in the 200m butterfly and set the time of 2:03.30, which equals 676 pts and in the 100m butterfly finished with a time of 54.99, which totals 655 pts.
The swimmers competed without obtaining qualification in the 4x50m freestyle relay and in the 4x50m freestyle.
