Luanda - More than 200 national and foreign swimmers arrived in Luanda on Saturday to participate in the 3rd International Swimming Meet, in celebration of the 449th anniversary of the Angolan capital, for men and women, to be held at the Alvalade swimming pool.
There competition includes an open water competition on Sunday at Ilha do Cabo in Luanda, with a Mozambican delegation of six swimmers.
Organized by the Luanda Provincial Swimming Federation, 40 events are planned in the categories of children, youth, juniors, seniors and masters, divided into four sections.
The first takes place from 8:00 to 13:00, while the second from 15:00 to 19:00. The following day, swimmers compete at the same time.
The Open Water and Triathlon competitions will take place on Ilha do Cabo, in front of the Clube Naval, from 8:00 to 13:00. In the Open Water, five kilometers will be competed in absolute, for both men and women. Swimmers in children, youth, junior, senior and master categories will compete in distances of 1.5 and 3 kilometers, while the triathlon will include 1,000 meters of swimming, 45 kilometers of cycling and 10 of running.
The third edition of the Luanda International Swimming Meeting includes the main teams from Luanda, namely Clube Náutico da Ilha de Luanda (CNIL), 1.º Agosto, Onda Sport Clube, Naval de Luanda, Tatu, Clube de Natação de Luanda, Barracudas, Escola Internacional de Luanda (LIS) and individual athletes.
The event also includes the Maputo Sharks, the only foreign team invited.
Some results of the first day of competition:
Swimmer Santiago Guimarães, from Clube Nautico, won the 400m freestyle, in the junior category, with a time of 47:36.41, the only competitor in his category. Yano Elias, from 1º de Agosto, won in the junior category (5:02.77), Antunes Isaias, CNL (5:58.34), in the senior category and Eduardo Afonso, Clube Barracudas, (6:16.81), in the masters category.
In the women's race, Wezza Morais of CNIL won the junior women's race (5:46.07) and Rhanya Santo, also of CNIL, won the junior women's race (5:09.25). In the 50m Breaststroke, Savanah Kempson (CNIL) won in the Junior category (46.49).
Kaila Santos, 1º de Agosto, won in the juniors (38.48), and Nemzi Albino, Clube de Maputo (37.75), in the juniors, while Dora Seculo, Clube Natação de Luanda (48.36), won in the masters. GVA/DAN/AMP
