Luanda - The Angolan swimmer Lia Lima failed on Wednesday to qualify for the semi-finals of the 200m butterfly at the Olympic Games taking place at the Arena La Défense swimming pool in Paris (France) after recording the time of 2:22.19.
The African vice-champion was thus eliminated from the event after finishing seventh and last of the series led by China's Yufei Zhang, with a time of 2:06.55.
The Angolan was the only one who failed to make the 16 semi-final places, finishing three seconds and 28 tenths behind her best time (2:18.91).
To reach the Olympic Games, the swimmer, who plays for Sport Lisboa e Benfica, has been the leader of the World Aquatics national points ranking for over five years, with 690 points.
Henrique Mascarenhas, the other Angolan swimmer, was seventh out of eight athletes in his category, having failed to qualify for the semi-finals after clocking 52.52 in the 100m freestyle on Tuesday.
Angola's participation in the swimming event came to an end this Wednesday.
The national Olympic mission is also made up of rowing, which qualified for the “F” final, a stage that only counts for the ranking position, canoeing, judo, athletics and women's handball. JAD/MC/AMP
