Huambo - South African and Mozambican judo fighters have confirmed their participation in the 14th edition of the "March Women's Cup" to be held from March 14 to 16 in central Huambo province, ANGOP has learned.

The initiative to internationalize the competition is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of national independence, to be celebrated on November 11, under the slogan "Angola 50 years: preserving and valuing the achievements made, building a better future".

Speaking to ANGOP, the secretary of the Huambo Provincial Judo Federation, José Castro Kawoyongo, said that a total of 420 athletes from the country's 21 provinces and abroad are expected to participate in the event.

He stressed that in addition to South Africa and Mozambique, other countries are expected to confirm their participation and are in contact with the organizers.

José Castro Kawoyongo emphasized that the Judo Federation is making arrangements for the tournament to become international and for the sport to grow in the country.

Interclube won the 13th edition of the competition in both men's and women's senior categories.

In the March Women's Cup, which began in 2011, Interclube has eight titles, followed by 1.º de Agosto with three, while Banca and Judo Elite, both from Luanda, have one title each.
