Luanda - The National Canoeing and Kayak Team begin this Thursday, in Abuja, Nigeria, the participation in the 9th edition of the African Championship, qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games, in Paris, France.
A total of 15 countries will participate in this competition, which will run until next Monday (27), including Algeria, Nigeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, São Tome and Principe, Mozambique, Seychelles, Côte d'Ivoire and Egypt.
The Angolan team is made up of athletes Avelino de Almeida, Manuel António and Benilson Sanda.
Also included on the list, from the team led by César Fidalgo, are practitioners Jairo Domingos, Lucrécia Gomes and Simão Camazaulo (Kayak).
The head of the delegation to the event, Pemba Domingos, has informed ANGOP that the group will close the climate adaptation phase this Wednesday afternoon.
It should be noted that this race will qualify 12 boats from the African continent for Paris’2024.
The last Angolan participation in the Olympic Games took place in 2012, in London (England), with Nelson Henriques and Fortunato Pacavira, while the “African” took place in 2019, in Tunisia.
The women's handball and rowing are already qualified for the Olympic Games.
