Luanda - Angola National Boxing Team made up of boxers Pedro Gomes and Dirsino Boika, will compete in Italy, in the second qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
According to the chairperson of Angola Boxing Federation (FABOXE), Simão Muanda, Pedro Gomes, 33-year-old, who currently represents Benfica in Portugal, will compete in the 57kg category, while Dirsino Boika, 21-year old, contests in 71kg category
The Angolan team will be led by coaches José Carvalho Paulo Muhongo "Chilola, a former boxer and gold winner at the 2nd Central African Games in 1981, and the Portuguese Paulo Jorge da Silva Magalhães.
Angola was absent from the first African qualification tournament held in September 2023 in Dakar, Senegal. In addition to these, there is still the third (3rd) World Qualification Window, in May/June, in Thailand.
Angolan boxing last appeared at the London Olympics in 2012 with boxer Ntumba Silva, who was defeated without fighting due to weight issues.
The country's first appearance was at the Moscow Olympics in 1980, with boxers João de Almeida, Abílio Cabral and Alberto Coelho.
