Lubango – At least 220 long distance runners are expected to participate Saturday in the 36th edition of the National Cross-country Championships in junior and senior men and women’s category to take place in Lubango city, central Huila province.
The race, to be held at the Nossa Senhora do Monte tourist complex, on the outskirts of Lubango, will be over a course of seven kilometres for the junior men and four kilometres for the women.
The under-13 youth race will be eight kilometres for boys and six kilometres for girls, while senior men and women will cover 10 kilometres.
Athletes from the provinces of Huíla, Namibe, Luanda, Cuanza Sul, Huambo and Bié are expected to take part in the race.
Speaking to ANGOP, the secretary of the Provincial Athletics Association, Augusto Seco, said that Huíla will participate with 197 athletes, 140 of whom from the Okuhateca project, representing the province’s 14 municipalities.
Interclube athletes David Elias, who crossed the line with 35 min, 47 secs and 30 ths and Ernestina Paulino, with a time of 40 minutes, 47 seconds and 56 tenths won the previous edition of the 10km- cross country race held in 2022.
