Luanda - Angolan boxer Pedro Gomes defeated, today, in Milan, Italy, the Canadian Victor Tremblay, in the 57 kg category in boxing, at the Pre-Olympic Tournament to qualify for the Paris 2024 Games.

This is the 2nd triumph of the “Black Panther”, after defeating Zing Liu, from Hong Kong.

In the next fight, the athlete will face a boxer from China as his opponent.

To reach the Paris2024 Olympic Games, Pedro Gomes will have to win the last two challenges of the event.

The 57 kg category is being contested by 52 boxers, who are fighting to reach the final.

From May 26th to June 4th, the second global window of access to the Paris Olympic Games will take place in the city of Bangkok, Thailand.

Angola was absent from the 1st African qualification window, held in September 2023, in Dakar, Senegal.

Angolan boxing last attended the Olympic Games in the London edition, in 2012, with boxer Ntumba Silva, but ended up defeated without competing, after failing to weigh in.

The first Angolan representation took place at the Moscow Olympic Games, in 1980, with boxers João de Almeida, Abílio Cabral and Alberto Coelho.
