Luanda - Angola is looking for its sixth team title at the African Optimist Sailing Championship, on its return to the Seychelles, a country of good memories, where the event takes place from 14 to 21 October.

In 11 participations, Angola won the first trophy in 2016, in Luanda, followed by 2017, in Egypt. The third came in 2019, in the host country, the Seychelles, which represents good memories for the national team.

The fourth came in 2022, in South Africa, while the fifth was won in 2023, in Morocco, all with the Angolan team being guided by the national coach, Moisés Camota, assisted by the team leader, Rui Albuquerque.

However, Angola made its debut in 2009 in South Africa (2nd) and went on to win the 2010 edition in Kenya, the 2012 edition in Tanzania, the 2014 edition in Morocco, the 2015 edition in Algeria and the 2018 edition in Mozambique.

For this edition, the country, which has won numerous individual championships, is betting on a team made up of five sailors, including the experienced Lourenço Simão and Francisco Cândido, as well as newcomers Emanuela Filipe, Pedro Paulo and Paulo João. The trip to the competition venue is scheduled for the 8th of October. JAD/WR/DAN/DOJ
