Angola win seven medals in canoeing competition for Olympic Game´s participation

Luanda – Angolan athletes, who will be competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, won seven medals at the African canoeing tournament, which ended on Sunday in Abuja, Nigeria.

Among the medals, the national men's and women's teams won two gold medals, two bronze medals and three bronze medals.

To record that qualification for the Paris event was obtained by the team of Manuel António and Benilson Sanda winning the 500 metres.

Nigeria, the host country, came second with four gold medals, four silver and one bronze.

Tunisia came third with three golds, five silvers and seven bronzes, out of a total of 13 countries, of which the Cote d’ Ivoire was the last without a medal.

Angola also took part in the event with Avelino de Almeida (para-canoeing), Jairo Domingos, Lucrécia Gomes and Simão Camazaulo, held in Kayak.

For this, the world's biggest multi-sport event, the Angolans have already taken part in the 2008 edition, held in Beijing, and the 2012 edition, held in London.

In addition to the canoeing duo (C2), Angola have also qualified for next year's Olympic Games in rowing, with André Matias, and women's handball.
