Luanda - The National Football Team for amputees defeated today, the 1 de Junho team, by 9-0, in a friendly game aimed at the African Nations Championship (AFCON'2024), taking place from the 18th to the 30th of this month, in Cairo (Egypt).

The goals of the match, played at the Cidadela stadium, in Luanda, were scored by Day, Heno and Nacho (two goals each), Laurindo, Vicente and Candeeiro scored one each.

In the continental championship, Angola seeks to repeat the feat of 2019 when, as hosts, it won the competition, held in Benguela, as well as qualifying for the 2026 World Championship in Costa Rica, Japan, Poland or Spain.

Regarding group D, in which Angola will have Tanzania, Sierra Leone and Rwanda as opponents, assistant coach Helder Gomes told ANGOP that they are opponents that have evolved in recent years and, obviously, all with podium ambitions.

“If we want to win, we will respect and face them as respectful opponents, so that in the end we emerge victorious and achieve the initial objective of moving on to the next stage”, he stressed.

The National Team made its African debut in 2009, in Liberia. Became African champion in 2019, in Benguela, and in 2021, in Tanzania, reached the 3rd place.

In 2018, in Mexico, Angola was world champion and in the 2022 edition, in Turkey, it was runner-up.
