Luanda - Angola will host the African Men's and Women's Wheelchair Basketball Championships in January 2026, the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA) said in a statement.

According to the statement, the competition will be held in the country's capital, Luanda, from January 20 to 31, 2026.

This is the second time that Angola will host this continental event, the first being in 2013, when the country only participated with the men's team, which was beaten by Morocco.

The national technical committee has already called 21 potential candidates to make up the women's team, as they have held their national championship and will be making their debut in international competition, according to the statement.

As for the men's team, it will be called up in March this year, after the national championship, the venue of which has not yet been announced by the organization.

After 2013, Angola did not participate in the continental competition due to the lack of technical and organizational conditions, and is now returning with two national teams.

The pre-qualifiers for the women's team are expected to undergo medical, fitness and athletic tests in the coming days.

The team includes the following players (point guards) - Clementina Chionga (Benguela province), Maria Marcelo (Benguela), Aurora Yondondo (Bie), Domingas Vissup (Luanda), Maria Kuyayala (Luanda) and Angelina Oliveira (Kwanza Sul).

(Shooting guards) - Isabel Quitumba (Luanda), Rita Manuel (Benguela) and Valentina Kiteculo (Bengula), (Extreme) - Juliana Segunda (Bié), Domingas Tchitula (Bié), Mariquinha Pedro (Luanda), Domingas Capoco (Huambo), Beatriz Chitumba (Huambo) and Alice Sonha (Huambo).

(midfielders and strikers) - Emilda Manuel (Bié), Cecília Chitumba (Huambo), Angélica da Costa (Huambo), (forward players) - Olinda Lupessi, Lúcia Kiala (Luanda) and Sara Camalanda (Huambo). BSV/VAB/AMP
