Moçâmedes - Two automatic meteorological stations were installed in southwest province of Namibe, as part of the Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security in Angola (FRESAN) program.
Speaking to ANGOP on Friday, after a meeting to present the results to the provincial government, Catarina Tormenta, FRESAN deputy coordinator, said that, in addition to the means, some technicians from the National Institute of Meteorology (INAMET) were trained to report a greater volume of information for a database, both nationally and internationally.
She reported that in Namibe, one station is located in the municipality of Bibala, while the other is located in the commune of Bentiaba, municipality of Moçâmedes.
According to the technique, the equipment will make it possible to understand the Earth system and extreme weather events, which recur in the region, autonomously, as they measure meteorological indicators essential for predicting the weather.
She explained that these tools available to the public and decision-makers help to boost agricultural activity, providing accurate information on rainfall and temperatures for sowing and harvesting production.
On the occasion, the deputy provincial governor of Namibe for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Abel Kapitango, was satisfied with the fact that INAMET, in Namibe, has means that will increase its response capacity, providing vital information for the development of various sectors.
