Huambo - More than 10,000 hectares of forest polygons, cultivable areas and nature reserves in Huambo province have been devastated this year by anarchic fires, with various damage to biodiversity, ANGOP has learned.

The information was provided Monday by the director of the Environment, Waste Management and Community Services office of Huambo, João Calão Figueiredo, at the end of the VIII ordinary session of the local government, chaired by the provincial governor, Pereira Alfredo.

On the occasion, the official pointed to hunters and family peasants as the main practitioners of this evil, with the aim of producing charcoal, chasing animals and deforesting the fields, without measuring the consequences and any control and authorization from the authorities.

He informed that the province of Huambo is one of those with the most anarchic fires recorded this year in the country, ranging from criminal, cultural and entertainment types, with massive deforestation of polygons and native vegetation.

To this end, he said that the plan for the containment of this evil was presented during the session, in which various segments of society will be involved, to educate citizens about the importance of protecting biodiversity, fauna and flora, accompanied by the reforestation of trees in the areas.

He made it known that criminal fires will be held civilly and criminally responsible by the authorities, while cultural fires will be mitigated with various sensitizations in the communities.

The province of Huambo, in addition to several forest areas, has the forest polygon of Sanguenge, in the municipality of Cachiungo, and Chandeda, in Caála, several times devastated by anarchic fires.

The VIII ordinary session of the Government of the province of Huambo also addressed the operational situation of the National Police, the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) and low-density urban mobility. ZZN/JSV/ALH/DOJ
