Doha – The Qatar Environmental and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) expressed its willingness to cooperate with Angola in the areas of soil, water and air management, as well as in the training of Angolan staff.

The information was given Tuesday to the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, by the executive director of QEERI, Tareq Al-Ansari, during a visit that the Angolan government official made to the complex, to find out about its operation and assess the possibility of cooperation in various areas.

At the end of the visit held on the sidelines of the minister's participation in Angola's Day at Expo Doha 2023, celebrated on Sunday (4), Ana Paula de Carvalho, who was accompanied by the Angolan ambassador to Qatar, António Coelho Ramos da Cruz, she said that work will be done to establish partnerships with the institute, which include the travel of Angolan staff to the institution, to gain experience.

She stated that Angola does not have any institution of the size of the one visited, but it has the Environmental Pollution Control Center (CAPA, located in Cabinda and, currently, more dedicated to water analysis and fire hydrant controls.

The country also has the Center for Tropical Ecology and Climate Operations (CETAC), in Huambo, which has already carried out studies on springs in that province, according to the minister, who led the Angolan delegation on Angola Day at Expo, representing the President of Republic, João Lourenço.

“What we can take from here, and our statutes provide for this, is the issue of air management, which is very important, because in relation to soil and water, studies have already been carried out”, she stated, recognizing that it is necessary to also look at for air quality, despite Angola not having high levels of pollution caused by industrialization, like Qatar.

Ana Paula de Carvalho observed that the quality of soil, water and air impacts the economy, because, if a country is ravaged by diseases caused by pollution, a certain number of people stay at home and end up negatively affecting the country's economy.

The Qatar Energy and Environmental Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is a national research institution charged with supporting the country in addressing its major energy, water and environmental challenges. .

It has experienced scientists, engineers and technicians supported by focused management and operations teams, working in its world-class indoor and outdoor facilities, with the aim of making a lasting positive impact in Qatar and the region. SR/ART/DOJ
