Caxito – The Primary school 317, in Dande municipality of Bengo province, on Tuesday received sanitation equipment (buckets) for rubbish disposal.
The delivery was made by the general coordinator of the project for Collective, Private and Public Responsibility for the Preservation and Conservation of the Environment in Urban Areas (RRECOPP), Vacoco Kini, who said that it will cover five schools in five communes in Dande, Caxito, Mabubas, Kicabo, Úcua and Barra do Dande.
He emphasised that environmental education should be a positive and inspiring action not only for adults but also for children.
The official asked the children to take care of the planet with small actions, saving water, recycling waste, planting trees and not burning, advising students to separate solid waste correctly, reduce water and energy consumption in order to contribute to a sustainable future and guarantee the preservation of the environment.
He emphasised that the student population is one of the project's target groups. In this context, 17 school environmental brigades have already been set up to work on raising awareness about the environment.
The representative of the Dande Municipal Directorate of Education, Teresa Manuel Pedro, praised the RRECOPP initiative and encouraged it to continue in other schools of the municipalities.
At the delivering act, the students were instructed on how to separate waste in different buckets, given that there are some which can be reused.
The project, which is funded by the European Union (EU), has a duration of three years and is budgeted at around 384,750 euros.
In Bengo province, the initiative began to be implemented in 2021 and aims to increase the capacity of communities, protect the environment and create income-generating initiatives through associations.
