Huambo - The Secretary of State for Environment, Yuri dos Santos has said the country is harmonizing strategic plans for sustainable development with environmental projects to promote the social and economic well-being of the population.
The official made the statement at the First National Forum on Environmental Education, under the slogan "Environmental Education, Transversality and Eco Citizenship as a Response to the Environmental Crisis".
Yuri dos Santos spoke of the need to involve the population in government programs related to environmental protection to boost sustainable development, focused on improving living conditions and fostering social responsibility.
He stressed that a joint effort is needed nowadays to alleviate the high pressure of consumption of natural resources, the uncontrolled emission of pollutants and unbridled urbanization, motivated by technological growth, as well as accelerated population growth around the world.
The National Forum is part of the Angolan government's 2022/2050 program, related to the National Environmental Education Strategy (ENEA), which provides the inclusion of these subjects in the curricula of the education system, participatory citizenship, promotion of basic sanitation, combined with the quality of life of the population in the communities.
The event's agenda included the dissemination of educational establishments, creation of a permanent evaluation forum and the stimulation of cooperation between the country's various municipalities and cities, with the aim of sharing experiences of environmental values, responsibilities and socio-economic sustainability.LT/JSV/ ALH/AMP
