Moçâmedes – Angola’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry launched Friday in the country’s southern Namibe province a public consultation to draw up a national policy on family farming and rural development.
Speaking at the launching ceremony attended by experts of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and local farmers, the director of the Institute for Agrarian Development (IDA) Tarciso Baptista, said 2,000 players of the sector are expected to take part in the public consultation, 30 percent of them women and 20 percent young people.
The Agriculture official said the aim of the public consultation is to gather opinions and ideas for the creation of a policy for the development of family farming and sustainable rural extension.
The FAO representative in Angola Gherda Barreto on his turn said the public consultation is expected to strengthen farmers' capacity through direct contact with experts. VR/FA/ASS/TED/AMP
