Dundo - The secretary of the Head of State for the productive sector, Isaac dos Anjos, on Monday in the north-eastern Lunda-Norte Province, announced that a coffee plant nursery with the capacity to produce one million coffea arabica per year will soon be set up in this side of the country.

Speaking to the press in Dundo City, on the sidelines of his working visit to the province, he said that the project has funding from some companies in the diamond sub-sector and is expected to be implemented this year.

Without revealing the quantity or tonnes, he said that companies in the diamond sector had made ten truckloads of arabica coffee plants available from some farms in Cuanza-Sul Province to start producing this product in Lunda-Norte.

He emphasized that the government will continue to influence mining companies to support agricultural production in the provinces where they operate, as part of their social responsibilities, adding that another crop to be introduced in Lunda-Norte, is the production and processing of palm fruit and mangoes.

To him, palm groves can be successful in that district, all that is needed is to introduce hybrid varieties that can start producing in less time.

"If, over the years, mango cultivation has prevailed here and we make a small change by grafting new centrovertine varieties, Lunda-Norte could soon become an exporter to the world markets," he said.

He said that it is expected to work on the grafting on the mangões with new varieties with less turpentine by transforming the crops with a product as an income product for the province with the creation of a industry of juice and jams.

Isaac dos Anjos, said that the government wants to involve families and young people in this process with the aim to provide them with economic development and diversification.

During five days in Lunda Norte province, the President's secretary will visit the production fields of Cuilo, Caungula, Capenda-Camulemba, Cambulo and Lucapa.
