Uíge - The provincial governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, on Tuesday in the province reiterated his commitment to increasing agricultural production, with a view to mitigating hunger and poverty.

According to data, during the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign the province of Uíge harvested more than 8.262 million tons of various products, surpassing the 7.525 million tons of the previous harvest.

José Carvalho da Rocha who was speaking at the opening of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Provincial Government of Uíge, said that the region has water resources and fertile soils, particularly important factors for promoting agricultural production and food security in the region.

For this to happen, he asked for greater organization of the distinctive chains that compete for production.

He recalled that the Provincial Government of Uíge has several challenges to improve the social conditions of the population and that is why he said there is a permanent need for all authorities to be linked to these challenges.

Among these challenges, he highlighted the electrification of the 13 municipalities.

“The biggest challenge we have is doing everything we can to electrify this region. Only with this measure can we talk about development”, added José Carvalho da Rocha.

The meeting, which includes the delegated management and provincial directors and municipal administrators, addresses the opening of the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign, the Local Family Agriculture Support Program (PLAAF), payment of subsidies to traditional authorities, situation on schools infrastructure, as well as the afforestation of municipalities, among other issues.
