Caála – The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) released last Wednesday 11.5 million Kwanzas to support 51 field schools in the municipality of Caála, central province of Huambo, ANGOP has learnt.
Some 1,500 families will benefit from the project, said the national coordinator of FAO, César Valencia.
He said that the funding is result of a partnership between the Angolan government and the World Bank.
The financing will speed up the activity of field schools and increase the levels of the local agricultural production, he said, adding that FAO wants this year to promote 200 field schools in the municipality of Caála for a universe of 6,000 peasant families.
César Valência said that with this amount, the FAO is strengthening the MOSAP II projects, through the creation of 4,000 field schools in the 78 communes of the provinces of Bié, Huambo and Malanje, where the programme, aimed at benefitting 142,000 peasant families, is in progress.
The field schools were introduced in Angola by FAO in partnership with the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA) to encourage quality and profitable agricultural production for rural communities, he stressed.
