Cuito - The agricultural cooperative of former military, Camia Trindade, located in the municipality of Cuito, Province of Bié, expects to harvest in the current agricultural campaign more than 200 tons of various products, with emphasis on corn, cassava, Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes.

A total of 150 tons were harvested on the previous, with emphasis on corn, reaching 80 tons.

Speaking on Tuesday to ANGOP, at the provincial event of International Rural Women's Day (October 15), Inocêncio Trindade, chairman of the aforementioned organization, said that, despite the forecast increase in production, this campaign will be carried out manually, due to the breakdown, for almost a year, of the only available tractor.

He highlighted that they control more than 255 hectares of available arable land, of which 137 have already been cleared.

He also noted that they face difficulties of various kinds, from insufficient agricultural inputs, production tools, fertilizers, training in the field of agriculture and literacy for members.

The issues of transporting the food harvested from the farm to consumption centers also constitutes an obstacle for members of the cooperative.

The challenges for next year are to increase the cultivation area, to up to 250 hectares, essentially for the cultivation of corn, rice and beans.

The Camia Trindade agricultural cooperative stressed that it has already benefited from the Govt, in the past, from a mill, fertilizers, chicks under the bird repopulation program, a tractor and Akz 10 million (US$ 10.940,5).

Located in the town of Njele, municipality of Cuito (Bié), the Camia Trindade cooperative was founded on July 19, 2018. It currently has 224 members, of which 104 are former-military personnel.
