Cachiungo - Five cooperatives belonging to the former military members received nine tractors and implements on Tuesday in central Huambo province, in a move meant to reintegrate the demobilised soldiers.
The distribution is part of the first phase of the programme of peace agreements signed in Angola on April 4, 2002.
The equipment were distributed to the cooperatives Epandi Sambo and Twapokola (municipal district of Huambo, 11 de Outubro (Cachiungo), Olongundja (Longonjo), with two tractors each, and Saudemos o Outubro (Alto-Hama), with one unit, to benefit 5, 925 families.
The means are part of the batch of 500 tractors the head of the Angolan Executive, João Lourenço, pledged in his State of the Nation Speech.
Speaking at National Assembly, on October 15th this year, the president promised to distribute tractors to boost agricultural cooperatives of ex-soldiers.
The Secretary of State for Social Action, Lúcio Gonçalves Amaral, handed over the equipment, in a ceremony witnessed by the governor of Huambo province, Lotti Nolika.
The cooperatives produce various products, with stress to the corn, beans, soybeans, potatoes and vegetables.
