Matala – The 1º de Maio cooperative, the largest in the irrigated perimeter of Matala, in the southern Province of Huíla, plans to harvest more than fifty tons of beans, starting this upcoming September, in an area of 15 hectares.
Production is financed by the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA), through the CWAM Angola cooperative, which is dedicated to promoting corporate agriculture.
Speaking this Tuesday, to ANGOP, the cooperative vice-president, Daniel Chiwale, said that the production already has buyers and as soon as it is harvested, producers will have the financial resources to prepare the next sowing.
He stated that the constraints in produce distribution registered in recent years have been overcome, as customers/buyers will come to the fields to collect production, which is why he hopes to increase the cooperative's income and improve the families' living standard.
The irrigated perimeter of Matala has around 11 thousand hectares that extend over 42 kilometers of channel, 7 thousand of which are exploited for agriculture and the remainder for pasture.
The 1º de Maio farmers co-op has more than 100 members and produces, in addition to beans, corn, potatoes, fruits and vegetables.
